Note for: Jacques Alexis (Jimmy) Goyetche, 12 JUL 1884 - 13 FEB 1970 Index
Individual Note: In 1931, two local men, Jacques Goyetche and Andre Samson, convinced the fishermen of Petit de Grat to form a cooperative, the Richmond Shore Fish Limited. This small industry did heavy trade in dry fish and purchased a great deal of fish from the local fishermen. But after a few years of inactivity, the establishment was sold in 1950 to Booth's Fisheries, a company based in Chicago. After being destroyed by fire and rebuilt the same year, the company continued to create a large number of jobs for local residents for 25 years. In 1975, the plant was bought by Richmond Fisheries and ran it until the early 90s when it was shut down.

Note for: Joseph Raymond (Ray) Goyetche, 12 FEB 1926 - 20 JUL 1974 Index
Individual Note: Raymond was one of nine children born to Jacques Alexis (Jimmy) Goyetche and Maria Boudreau of Petit de Grat, N.S.
At age 14, Raymond ran away from home and tried to join those fighting in World War II. Legend has it that his mother caught up with him in Halifax and dragged him by the ear all the way back to Petit de Grat. Two years later, although still too young, Raymond was off again. This time he made it to Montreal where he found a recruiting office, lied about his age so that he could join the Army, and saw duty overseas in Italy.
After the war, Raymond settled in Montreal where he met and married Ada Jones. They tried for a big family but only one son, Darryl, survived. Ada suffered six miscarriages over the years. Raymond worked for Molson Breweries for a time, and then joined the White Rose Oil Refinery which later became the Shell Oil Refinery.
Raymond passed away in 1974 at the age of 48, from complications arising from a battle with arteriosclerosis.

Individual Note: Yes indeed my father was the founder of Goyetche Business College in Jonquiere before we moved as a family to Deux Montagnes in 1964. The College was in operation from 1952 to 1962. I remember Gerald Harvey as a student there. He was, at the time, learning English. The College offered regular Business courses during the day and dad would return 4 nights a week to teach English to adults. My father,s promise to the grads was a Job and that promise was to the best of my knowledge always kept. He always had a waiting list of potential students, even in the first year of operation. He never advertised. His motto was " My students are my best publicity" He did work quite hard but was always there for our family especially on weekends and holidays. He was even president of the juvenile hockey league at that particular time. He was quite the personality and we still miss his great sense of humor and charisma to this day.
sincerely, Bernie
